SHOULD I EVEN LISTEN TO THIS?

Rob Crow – Living Well

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 14, 2007

Type: Indie Rock

Good Tracks:
1. Bam Bam
3. Taste
4. Over Your Heart
5. Up
9. Leveling
10. Ring
11. Focus

Rob Crow is the singer for Pinback. Not as fun to listen to as Pinback, but still quite good. Tracks 5 and 9 are pretty good. Though there are a lot of tracks considered “good”, they’re mostly not amazing, but definitely not bad, and you’ll find at least a few interesting moments in each song. Sounds just like Pinback, but for some reason just not as interesting.

Beirut – The Flying Club Cup

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 14, 2007

Type: Big Band Foreign Dance Party

Good Tracks:
02 “Nantes”
03 “A Sunday Smile”
04 “Guyamas Sonora”
06 “Cliquot”
09 “In the Mausoleum”
13 “The Flying Club Cup”

This is a great release from Beirut, and is an advancement over Gulag Orkestar. Some say the new album isn’t as good, but i’d say this is much better. Tracks 3 and 4 are really great. Give the rest of the album a fair chance, you may like those tracks too, these just stuck out easily.

Animal Collective – Strawberry Jam

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Rock

Good Tracks:
1. Peacebone
5. Fireworks

LoLwut? Is this some kind of joke? Maybe everyone in the world likes this album but me. Ya, the first track was pretty awesome, but maybe that’s why it’s the first track. I listened carefully and couldn’t convince myself to like this album at all. Sounds like Deerhoof written by apes with brain tumors. Yes, I LIKE THE FIRST TRACK, and “Fireworks” is alright, but no. So boring, Do Not Want.

Annuals – Be He Me

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Rock

Good Tracks:
2. Dry Clothes
6. Bleary-Eyed
11. Father

Ya, the rest of this album wasn’t so amazing at all , but “Dry Clothes” and “Bleary-Eyed” are really great songs. I love the way “Dry Clothes” bounces along, if it didn’t end so stupidly it would be awesome, but it is still sweet, which is slightly less than awesome. These guys could be going places, maybe.

50 Cent – Curtis

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Rap

Good Tracks:
2. My Gun

Not good at all. I used to think 50 cent was awesome :-( . Maybe he needs to get shot 9 more times as inspiration for his next album.

Kanye West – Graduation

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Rapzilla

Good Tracks:
1. Good Morning
2. Champion
3. Stronger
4. I Wonder
5. Good Life – T-Pain, , Kanye West
6. Can’t Tell Me Nothing
10. Everything I Am – DJ Premiere, Kanye West
12. Homecoming
13. Big Brother

Kanye is the man. Almost this entire album is worth listening to. The production on this album is perfect. Kanye’s beats are way beyond most of the shit typical rappers are putting out, with the exception of Eminem who manages to always have insane beats. My favorite tracks would be “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Everything I Am”, which has an incredibly good beat with great lyrics. LoL at 50 Cent Vs. Kanye.

Beirut – Gulag Orkestar

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Folk/Big Band Foreign Dance Party

Good Tracks:
4. “Postcards from Italy” – 4:17
5. “Mount Wroclai (Idle Days)” – 3:15
6. “Rhineland (Heartland)” – 3:58
7. “Scenic World” – 2:08
11. “After the Curtain” – 2:54

I wasn’t sure what to think of this at first, but it quickly grew on me big time. “Postcards from Italy” and “Mount Wroclai” are equally my favorite from this release. Zach Condon and whoever else was involved did an excellent job with some tight instrumentals.

Jeremy Enigk – World Waits

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Rock

Good Tracks:
2. “Been Here Before”
4. “City Tonight”
5. “Cannons”
9. “World Waits”

2nd full solo album from the former singer for Sunny Day Real Estate. Sounds better than Sunny Day Real Estate and is catchier. You may not find most of this album appealing but these songs here are nice. “World Waits” is a nice closing track for this album.

Wire – Pink Flag

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Punk?

Good Tracks:
5. “Lowdown” – 2:26
7. “Mannequin” – 2:37

Possibly one of the most overrated bands ever. This album was absolute trash with the exception of these two songs. “Lowdown” sounds like a pretty great song compared with the rest of the album, but it’s hardly mediocre, at least it stood out. “Mannequin” is actually a great song in all respects so at least i didn’t listen for nothing.

Cursive – Domestica

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 13, 2007

Type: Rock

Good Tracks:
1. “The Casualty” – 3:30
2. “The Martyr” – 3:57
4. “Making Friends and Acquaintances” – 2:58
6. “The Lament of Pretty Baby” – 3:15
8. “The Radiator Hums” – 3:24

Sweetness. Cursive is almost always worth listening to. Starts out amazing with “Casualty” and “The Lament of Pretty Baby” is classic. First half of this album is where its at.

Jens Lekman – Night Falls Over Kortedala

Posted by jarrodperreault on September 12, 2007

Type: Folk

Good Tracks:
3. “The Opposite of Hallelujah”

Not feelin this at all. Sounds like crappy elevator music. 3rd track is great but the rest is something i want nothing to do with.
